World No.9, 27, made it to the third round at the WTA event for the very first time by making quick work of Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6.9-0, 6-1, 7-5.

World No.14, 24, overcame world No.23, 24, in the second set and was unable to get past 10th seed, 21, as she was beaten in the third set, 6-3, 6-4.

Pavlyuchenkova has a four-match winning streak at the tournament, having defeated three-time champion, 14, in the round of 16, Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-4.

“It was hard, very hard,” said Pavlyuchenkova. “But I’m happy to be here. I need to show that I’m not just here for the money.”

Nastase, 21, was up a break in the ninth game. However, she lost the next two games.

“It’s a different style of tennis of course,” said Nastase. “I’m not sure how I feel right now. I’m just going to come back in the second set and show that I can play a little bit better.”

World No.7, 33, took down Romania’s Kristina Barroescu 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-3 in just over two hours, 23 minutes. She is now 5-0 in her run after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-4, 6-2, and Eugenie Bouchard, 7-6(4), 6-4 in the open draw.
