Wilde to star in the movie adaptation of Green’s novel Good Will Hunting

Grey Poupon’s Don’t Worry Dijon wants a taste of Olivia Wilde’s salad-dressing drama.

Wilde, fresh off the best-reviewed, bestselling book of her career, is set to star opposite Ryan Gosling, playing the on-and-off-again love interest in the movie adaptation of author John Green’s coming-of-age novel Good Will Hunting. The movie is set for a February 2014 release by Universal Pictures.

In Good Will Hunting, a troubled, struggling teenage orphan has an unexpected brush with death as he and an older man become friends in their rural community of Westford, Massachusetts. It’s a poignant story of love, loss and, ultimately, hope.

The story will follow Gosling’s character, a teenage boy who, despite the death of his father and the loss of his family, finds inner strength to survive, as well as the opportunity to fall in love with another boy (Olivia Wilde) while he’s on a summer break from camp.

Good Will Hunting is based on the bestselling 2008 novel by Green (12 Going on 30) and focuses on four childhood friends who go on to pursue different lives. They all make different decisions which bring them closer together — until they learn that a decision that changes their lives can threaten the world.

That same theme of choices — but ones that are much more important than themselves — will be at the heart of Wilde’s character, Samantha, who is the teenage love interest in the story. The book is the first in a trilogy entitled Just Kids and will be followed by the second book in the trilogy, Bad Hair Day, in August 2013. She has also written two teen novels: The Fault in Our Stars and The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay.

The movie was picked up by Fox Searchlight Pictures, which also is the distributor.

Wilde and Gosling met while they were co-stars on American Idol. They were supposed to work on the movie during spring break, but the idea of working on a movie together fell through after they saw each other at a party.
