What we know about the suspect:

Anderson Lee Aldrich, of Long Beach, California, identified as the suspect in the shootings, is in his early 40s. According to reports, he wore a mask. A witness and a local news station identified him to CNN as a regular patron of the gay club, who frequented the establishment and had recently been in when the shooting occurred.

Aldrich apparently drove to the club in a silver or white SUV with a red “No Parking” sign on the window. The vehicle was later found in a nearby parking lot. A police officer was killed and another was wounded in the incident. Gunmen fled the scene in a black SUV, possibly a rental, that was described as possibly connected to a silver Chrysler Pacifica.

The shooting has prompted calls for the resignation of New York Congressman Adam Schiff, one of the people behind the impeachment inquiry of US President Donald Trump.

“Congress has the responsibility to protect the security and safety of Americans. I stand ready to use all tools and resources at my disposal to protect members of my community and prevent further tragedies like the mass shooting,” Schiff, a Democrat, announced.

The White House told the media that Trump was not available for comment.

Aldrich’s name has been mentioned as a suspect, and has been linked to a history of mental illness, and has been described as a white supremacist.
