A Curling chair has resigned after an investigation into the allegation that staff at the Edinburgh Arena made ‘inappropriate comments’ around former player Jason Smith in 2010.
The Chair of the Edinburgh Curling Club, Mark Woodburn, met with the player earlier this week to discuss the allegations which were raised by Smith.
However, the Curling chair and Smith have now resigned.
A statement has been made available by officials of the Curling club:
“We’re obviously very disappointed to learn that a Curling chair has resigned after an independent investigation into allegations made in the media.
“On behalf of the Curling club, the board and I would like to thank the player, his reps and his management team for their ongoing support throughout this process. At the time of their resignations, there was no suggestion they had been subject to any conduct that had been proved wrong or even a single allegation that was not substantiated.
“We’re now working together to continue our inquiry and to find ways that players and coaches can continue to be safe on their programmes.
“For both the players and the club, we’re taking this opportunity to find out what happened to help us get to the bottom of this and, if the evidence indicates that any action needs to be taken, we’ll then decide the best approach.
“As a club, we’ve been made aware of allegations against a player and he has my sympathy and I believe the investigation will assist us in finding the truth.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the player and his family for their understanding and support, as they have dealt with very difficult issues in the media recently.”
I’m so sorry to
